    AUTOMATIC WINDING FLYBACK CHRONOGRAPH GMT

    INTRODUCTION
THE LIGHTNESS OF TITANIUM MEETS THE HARDNESS OF DIAMOND

True to the Richard Mille spirit, grey Cermet is the fruit of painstaking research conducted by the brand, which is unrelenting in its commitment to the creation of new materials. This exclusive Richard Mille material combines the lightness of titanium and the hardness of a high-performance ceramic. Its density of 4.1 g/cm3 – less than that of titanium – and its hardness of 2,360 Vickers – almost the same as diamond's 2,400 Vickers – make Cermet a judicious choice for use in bezels that are very exposed to scratches, while maintaining overall lightness.

    CALIBRE RMAC3

Skeletonised automatic winding movement with hours, minutes, seconds at 3 o’clock, oversize date, month, flyback chronograph with minutes and countdown counters at 9 o’clock, hour counter at 6 o’clock, UTC function and variable-geometry rotor.

    POWER RESERVE

Circa 55 hours (± 10%), 45 hours with chronograph running.
Actual power reserve results will depend on how much the chronograph features are utilised.

BASEPLATE AND BRIDGES MADE OF GRADE 5 TITANIUM

The baseplate and bridges are crafted of grade 5 titanium, a biocompatible, highly corrosion-resistant and remarkably rigid alloy, which enables the gear train to function effortlessly. The alloy is 90% grade 5 titanium, 6% aluminium and 4% vanadium. This combination further increases the material’s mechanical properties, which explains its frequent use in the aerospace, aeronautics and automotive industries.
The baseplate of the RMAC3 calibre has been optimised for an extremely low weight/resistance ratio.

The skeletonised baseplate and the bridges were subjected to intensive and complete validation tests to optimise their resistance capacities.

    FLYBACK CHRONOGRAPH

By using the pusher between 4 and 5 o’clock, the running chronograph can be reset without first having to stop the mechanism. This was originally developed for pilots in order to not waste time (and therefore accuracy) from stopping, resetting and starting the chronograph whilst crossing a navigational point.

While the chronograph function is activated, the hours and minutes show up the elapsed time thanks to the counter at 6 and 9 o’clock, the seconds are indicated by the central hands.

    GMT FUNCTION

The RM 11-05 features a GMT hand filled with Super-LumiNova. It can be easily adjusted using the pusher at 9 o’clock.

ANNUAL CALENDAR WITH OVERSIZE DATE DISPLAY

Semi-instantaneous, placed in a blue outlined aperture under 12 o’clock with automatic adjustment for months of 30 or 31 days.

The month display is semi-instantaneous and indicated by Arabic numerals, placed between 4 and 5 o’clock.

    ROTOR WITH VARIABLE-GEOMETRY

    • Central flange in grade 5 titanium
    • 18K white gold weight segment
    • Weight segment with 6 possible positions adjusted by screws in grade 5 titanium
    • 18K white gold wings
    • Ceramic ball bearings
    • Unidirectional anti-clockwise winding

This exclusive Richard Mille design makes it possible to effectively adapt rewinding of the mainspring to the user’s activity level, in sporting or non-sporting environments. By adjusting the six-position rib, the rotor’s inertia is modified to either speed up the winding process in the case of leisurely arm movements, or to slow it down during sporting activities.

CASE IN CARBON TPT ® AND ORANGE QUARTZ TPT ®

An all-new material exclusive in watchmaking to Richard Mille, grey Cermet combines the lightness of titanium with the hardness of a ceramic. It consists of a metallic zirconium matrix associated with high performance ceramic that gives the material its singular grey colour.

The production process is no less extreme than the material itself. Heating and forming such different materials together at high temperatures without adulterating their respective qualities and achieving a homogenous material is no mean feat, and one rendered all the more difficult as the composition eschews the nickel and cobalt generally used in this family of hard materials. The material is fully REACH compliant.

After years of development in specialised laboratories, Richard Mille and the Groupe IMI have succeeded in eliminating these unwanted binders, conserving only the desirable materials thanks to an innovative process that combines conventional hot-stamping associated with a series of bursts of high-voltage electrical current that make it possible to augment the kinetics of the sintering. The technique is known as flash sintering.

    FINISHING

    MOVEMENT
    • Baseplate and bridges in titanium, wet sandblasted, PVD treated
    • Chamfered and polished by hand
    • Hand-polished locking sections
    • Burnished pivots
    • Diamond-polished sinks
    • Pinions with undercuts
    STEEL PARTS
    • Sapphire-blasted surfaces
    • Chamfered and polished by hand
    • Screw slot and screws bevelled and polished for a rounded, polished tip
    WHEELS
    • Concave chamfering with a diamond tool
    • Diamond-polished angles
    • Circular-finished faces
    • Rhodium plating (before cutting the teeth)
    • Minimal corrections applied to the wheels in order to preserve geometry and performance

    OTHER FEATURES

    DOUBLE-BARREL SYSTEM
The double-barrel system helps to improve torque stability over a longer period. This is achieved by distributing the stored energy across two winding barrels instead of one, which increases the number of rotations and reduces pressure on the teeth, bearings and pivots, resulting in better long-term performance.

    FREE-SPRUNG BALANCE WITH VARIABLE INERTIA
This type of balance wheel represents the ultimate in innovation. It guarantees greater reliability when subjected to shocks and during movement assembly or disassembly, hence better chronometric results over time. The regulator index is eliminated, and a more accurate and repeatable calibration is possible thanks to 4 small adjustable weights located directly on the balance.

SPLINE SCREWS IN GRADE 5 TITANIUM FOR THE BRIDGES AND CASE

This permits better control of the torque applied to the screws during assembly. These screws are unaffected by physical manipulation during assembly or disassembly and age well.
